HER Cincinnati
1 July 2025
Portraits in Faith was invited to HER Cincinnati on July 1st to share the story of our documentary project and to also share stories of faith from around the world. PIF was introduced to HER Cincinnati by our board member, Katie Burns. HER Cincinnati sponsors three main programs: Off the Streets for women struggling with addiction and trauma from human trafficking, Anna Louise Inn providing safe and affordable housing for women, and Cincinnati Scholar House for single parent college students. 25 women joined us that evening and there was deep engagement by the participants. HER Cincinnati program leadership invited us were Beth Schwartz, Jenny Jones, and Ashley Ballman.
Ashley Ballman shared these thoughts: “Thank you so much for presenting Portraits in Faith to the women at Anna Louise Inn and Off the Streets. Your message and storytelling were powerful and truly resonated with the group. We’re so grateful you took the time to share your journey and your work with us.”
Thank you to Katie Burns and to the entire leadership of HER Cincinnati for enabling us to have this opportunity.
Here is what was published by HER Cincinnati in their newsletter:
HER Cincinnati Welcomed Daniel Epstein for a Powerful Evening of Portraits, Faith, and Connection
HER Cincinnati was honored to host Daniel Epstein, founder of the Portraits in Faith project, for an inspiring evening that brought global stories of resilience, faith, and humanity to life. Epstein has photographed and interviewed more than 500 individuals across 30 countries, sharing their deeply personal stories through portraits and videos.
The event gave HER Cincinnati’s participants a rare opportunity to see beyond their immediate surroundings and into the lives of people from vastly different backgrounds. Through Epstein’s lens, they were reminded that while others may live differently, we are all connected by our shared humanity and the search for meaning.
The evening became even more powerful when Epstein shared that he was celebrating 26 years of sobriety the very next day. The women responded with cheers and heartfelt support, embracing him with the same strength and compassion that define the HER Cincinnati community.
