Mishkan Chicago Yom Kippur Sacred Listening Workshop
11 October 2024
On Yom Kippur, our Founder, Daniel Epstein, was invited by Rabbis Lizzi Heydemann and Steven Phillip of Mishkan Chicago to conduct a specially designed “Sacred Listening Workshop.” The session was specially adapted for themes of Yom Kippur and Rabbi Heydemann’s Rosh Hashanah Sermon where she posed the question in Hebrew “MA LACH?” (How is it with you?). She encouraged us to be present to each other about how we are really doing and to take time to engage in creating a sacred community in this way.
The questions specially designed for this session that the group processed together were:
1. MA LACH? What is on your heart today as we enter this new year?
2. What arose in you when you heard about the events of October 7 last year and what is on your heart at this moment about Israel/Gaza?
3. How did you grow spiritually in the past year?
4. How did your concept of God change in the past year?
5. What are you most grateful for in the past year and what was your greatest disappointment?
6. What is your greatest wish for the new year?
Thank you to everyone at Mishkan Chicago who participated in our sacred session. Contact Daniel Epstein if you are interested in conducting Sacred Listening Workshops for your community.
