Sacred Listening Workshop with the Breaking Chains group

13 October 2025

I am so grateful that tonight we concluded three evenings of Portraits in Faith engagement with the Crossroads Church “Breaking Chains” group for men recently released from prison. Three months ago I first came to share the Portraits in Faith project—the portraits and the interviews. Then I returned two months ago to conduct “Sacred Listening” where the men were able to receive each other's story of faith and spiritual journey. And tonight we brought in 10 men from the church who have not been incarcerated to be opposite a man who has and to receive each other's story. We finished with the men taking a picture of each other with their phones and sharing what most inspired them about the other person. It was a beautiful evening and experience. Thank you to my dear friend and colleague, Vivienne Lee Bechtold, who made the connection happen between Portraits in Faith and Crossroads Church. And thank you to the organizers of the Breaking Chains group, Bob Neal and Joe Dimanio.
